Virtel 4.62 GA - Secure Connectivity, Smarter Access

Virtel 4.62 continues the evolution of secure, reliable, and flexible mainframe access.
This release strengthens web-to-host connectivity with enhanced TN3270 support, dynamic LU management, and stronger session encryption—while simplifying deployment and administration for modern hybrid infrastructures.

What’s New in Virtel 4.62?

Stronger Security and Session Management

  • Session Code Encryption with AES (CRYPTS=): Virtel sessions can now be encrypted using AES-128, AES-192, or AES-256, ensuring maximum data protection between client and host.
  • Passphrase support in the Virtel Admin Interface
  • Improved Credential Messaging: Enhanced clarity and security in login error messages.
  • Dynamic line definitions via DNS
  • NFORCEIP= Parameter: Enforce or relax client IP consistency checks for compatibility with zScaler or similar proxies.

Simplified Administration and Configuration

  • LU Nailing by User ID: New user-based Relay LU assignment enables persistent terminal or printer sessions, with dynamic table support.
  • Dynamic Relay Table: Admins can now manage Relay terminal definitions more flexibly via ARBO statements.
  • Updated Installation and Sample Members: New TN3270 definitions, sample configurations, and support for z/VSE in both English and French streamline deployment and maintenance.

Enhanced End-User Experience

  • Toolbar Enhancements in Web Access (W2H): New buttons for faster access to key features.
  • Improved Color and FTP Support: Web Access (CLI-00) benefits from richer presentation and file transfer improvements.
  • IE11 Compatibility Mode (Edge): Full support for IE11 compatibility mode in Microsoft Edge ensures seamless access in secured environments.
  • Better Feedback for Input Fields: Option buttons and PF keys now respond more consistently, improving user interaction.

Migration Notes and Compatibility

  • End of Compatibility Mode: The legacy "COMPATIBILITY" mode for w2hparm (deprecated since 4.61) is no longer supported. Customers should ensure migration to "Option" mode.
  • Stats File Update: Reallocation required for STATS file with LRECL=255.
  • Virtel Versions Older than 4.59 No Longer Supported: For full support and feature compatibility, we recommend upgrading to the latest version.
